Why only Lekki? The Reason they Abandoned Bonny, Ibom and Warri deep seaports.

WHY ONLY LEKKI? THE DELIBERATE ABANDONMENT OF BONNY, IBOM AND WARRI DEEP SEAPORTS

Former Minister Rotimi Amaechi has finally admitted what we already know. In 2021, President Buhari approved FOUR deep seaports: Lekki Deep Seaport, Bonny Deep Seaport, Ibom Deep Seaport, and Warri Deep Seaport.

Today, 5 years after, only ONE was built - Lekki.

The other three? Still on paper. Still stories. Still excuses.

Why is Bonny Deep Seaport still on paper?

Bonny is where Nigeria's oil wealth flows from. NLNG, crude oil, gas - billions of dollars leave Bonny every single day for Lagos and Abuja. Yet they cannot build a seaport in Bonny. A seaport that would create thousands of jobs for Rivers people. They said "funding is the problem." Lie.

Why is Ibom Deep Seaport still on paper?

Akwa Ibom has followed every due process, provided land, provided commitment. The port has been on the drawing board since 2007. 18 years of MOU upon MOU. If it was in Lagos, it would have been completed in 45 months like Lekki. But because it is in South-South, it is not a priority.

Why is Warri Deep Seaport still on paper?

Warri was once the pride of Nigerian ports. Today it is abandoned, silted, dead. They approved Warri Deep Seaport to revive it, but no shovel has entered ground. Again, "no funds."

But this same government that has no funds to build Bonny, Ibom and Warri had funds to build Lekki in record time. They had funds to build $1.5 billion Lekki Port under PPP. They had funds to waste on irrelevant projects, to renovate offices with billions, to loot through inflated contracts.

Let us tell ourselves the truth: IT IS NOT ABOUT FUNDING. IT IS ABOUT PRIORITY AND DELIBERATE NEGLECT.

Every federal project in South-South and South-East suffers the same fate:

- East-West Road - abandoned for 20 years

- Calabar - Itakpe - Warri Rail - abandoned

- Ibom Seaport - abandoned

- Bonny Seaport - abandoned

- Warri Seaport - abandoned

- Second Niger Bridge - they built it and started collecting toll like we are tenants

But everyday our oil and gas are drilled in Niger Delta, sold in dollars, and used to develop Lagos and Abuja. When we ask for our own seaport, they give us 1000 excuses why it cannot be built.

Lekki Deep Seaport was built in 45 months because it was in Lagos. It received presidential backing, ministerial supervision, NPA sinking fund, and Customs gazette in record time. Why can't Bonny get that same backing?

Until we in the South-South and South-East start demanding answers and holding these leaders accountable, they will continue to treat us as second-class citizens in our own country.

Enough of the excuses.
